Today was a historic day for Washington, and for mankind. Today was the first day that gay couples were able to be legally married in the state of WA.
My Boss Julie and her partner Nellinda have been together for 24 years and when the law passed Julie got down on one knee and proposed. They decided to join the 140 couples in King county to get married at City Hall. City Hall had 5 different locations for people to get married inside the building and then hosted a small social and then when the couples were married and ready to leave city hall, the stairway was lined with people cheering as their names were announced as newlyweds!
It was a pretty amazing day, and I took a few pictures - but I'll be excited to see the ones the hired photographers took. I am really happy for Nellinda and Julie, it's been a long time come, and they're so happy to finally be officially married.
Oh, and I almost forgot to mention our brush with fame today - Mayor Mike McGinn was there to shake hands, and congratulate each couple. Thanks City of Seattle for being awesome!
Julie and her Momma...
Nellinda and her brother.
Local artists volunteered their time and efforts to decorate the spaces, and they were simply beautiful.
As a product of a small midwest town, I seriously never thought I'd find myself at a wedding like this, but I have to say - the love is real, and deep and I knew that before, and I know it even more now.
