The Baptism of Lucas Harvey

Lucas Harvey Kneeland was baptized on July 5th 2014 at the Greek Orthodox church in Seattle.

When we all walked into the church we had an unsuspecting baby...

 A large group of witnesses.

And a really nervous Godmother to be.

Gene and Christina were married 8 years ago in the Lutheran tradition, and in order for Lucas to be Baptized at this church, the Priest required them to be married Greek Orthodox, so before we could baptize that babe, the parents were married...

Once Gene Kissed the Bride... we moved on to chapter two... Baptism.

Lucas is a very special boy, not only did most of his family fly out from South Dakota, Ohio and Arizona to witness his special day, but so did his mom's cousin's Eleni, Olga and his Grandpa Stelios ... from Thessaloniki Greece. Eleni is Lucas' Godmother.

She was very nervous as the Godmother in the Greek tradition is way more involved in the ceremony than your traditional Lutheran ceremony.

The Godmother rubs the baby with blessed Oil, then the priest performs a full submersion.

And just as they stripped the towel to rub the oil... that's when the tears began...

And the tears did not stop... for the rest of the ceremony, despite Eleni's best efforts. The picture below pretty much describes the entire baptism - it makes me giggle.

The tears finally stopped around the end - when he was back in his mom's arms.

This is the first time we've gotten Gene's entire family in one photo - all 7 of them!

Scott & Laurie, Alex & Nicolette.

Baptism is hard work....

After the ceremony's we headed to Ivars on Lake Union for some dinner!

Eric and I made a quick pit stop on our way home from Ivars to pick up Lucas' celebratory cupcakes from Trophy... delish!

Then, we all gathered at Gene & Christina's for some family time.

My Dad made this to store all his momento's in!
Where I took some time to photograph some details of the Baptism.

His towel.

The Certificate

The Jordan Almond baggies that Eleni brought from Greece

The witness bracelets she brought us all from Greece

It was fun to just hang out at the house afterwords, we had some cupcakes and then taught the Greek's how to make S'Mores.

Demi was falling asleep on the step eating her cupcake... it was a long day.

Love this family of mine!
