This week reminds me how bitter sweet life can be.... We just spoke with Ute last week hoping to set up a date for us to come and see how she has set up our apartment. Let me explain. When we moved out of 807, the possession of the property got turned over to the bank. The Bank "remodeled" (read: Painted and re-carpeted) our units, and then sold the entire property to an individual. We are happy where we are now, but were thrilled to hear that with a new owner in place, Ute our former neighbor was moving into Unit C... our place. She missed her unit, and always wanted a better view, so she was happy to be back at 807. Eric spoke with her a week ago Thursday, and she had invited us over to see the new digs. We were so happy to hear that Unit C had a resident moving in that would love it like we did.
Then the news came from Jack (Former neighbor - lives in Unit D) that Ute, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday afternoon. She had a heart attack while at work, and didn't make it through the night.
Our minds are reeling from this unexpected loss, and no doubt her children, and family are struggling with the "why's" and "how's" that an unexpected death in your life leaves you asking.
We are soaking in the bitter sweet moments with her in the last few weeks, and wished that we would have / could have said our final goodbyes. But It's hard to say when that's going to be for each person in the world.
Ute's family is having her memorial / open house on Christmas Eve. It is so fitting as we spent many a Christmas Eve dining on tasty food, and drinks with Ute and her family as part of her annual Christmas tradition.
Ute, you are missed... today, and forever.
