Happy Wednesday to all - and Happy Lenten Season! I've changed up the headings on the blog(s) to reflect the church season. I love Lent this year! Here's the weekly sharing of what we talked about at cRAVE last night. I thought it was a good message.
The words from the cross continue. "Today, You will be with me in Paradise". There were a couple really great things that came from last night's message. The person who spoke was a fellow advisor named Chris; he brought up a couple points and let himself be venerable to the youth in a way most others have not. He talked about the two men that were crucified next to Jesus.
Luke 23:32-33 " Two other men, both criminals, were also led out with him to be executed. When they came to the place called the Skull, there they crucified him, along with the criminals - one on his right, the other on his left."
... Luke 23:39-43 "One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: 'Aren't you the Christ? Save yourself, and us!' But the other criminal rebuked him. 'Don't you fear God? Since you are under the same sentence? We are being punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man, Has done nothing wrong.' Then he said 'Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom'. Jesus answered him 'I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise.' "
The men that were next to Jesus had broken laws of their time. It doesn't state what. But the way the text reads it seems as if they might even be partners in crime. One man challenges Jesus asking him why he doesn't save himself, while the other begs Jesus to remember him when he enters into his father's kingdom.
We're all criminals (sinners). Which type of criminal would you want to be? The one who constantly challenges Jesus and seems to not believe in what Jesus can do? Or the one who simply asks Jesus to remember you in his father's kingdom.
Just some food for thought for this evening as you head off to your Lenten destination.
