One... Long... Friday... Night

Last night Eric and I helped out with a Senior High Bus Lock-in for the GLC Youth group we work with. We met at the church at 6:45 and had 5 events planned for the evening. I know you think we're crazy but we had so much fun! Senior High Youth are the best!

We started out the night by attending Laser Queen. Laser Queen is a laser light show in the Adobe Laser Dome at the Pacific Science Center. It's a good show to sit, listen to Queen music and be mesmerized by colorful lasers and fog machines. I felt like I was watching the computer music player that does the same thing.

After we walked back to the bus from the laser show we headed towards the Market to go to an Improv show at the Market Alley Theater. As a photographer (by hobby) I was drooling at all the beautiful lighting and cool things that were surrounding us. I can not wait to head back there (sans 60 kids) and take 1,000 pictures. Market Alley or better known as Post Alley in Seattle is home of the infamous gum wall. Yes, a gum wall. I had always wanted to see the gum wall but now that I have I am less impressed. It is how it sounds, gum on a wall. Though we did have a girl lick it and make me sick to my stomach. After our adventure waiting in the Post Alley we went into this tiny theater and took in a very funny Improv show. The actors/actress' split into two teams and "battled" each other to see who was the funniest Improv team. One team was super funny and I will definitely gladly take anyone to see Improv at Market Alley Theater, it's a pretty Seattle experience.

We headed back to the bus and drove up to Edmonds for our next stop to play Whirly Ball. There is no better way to explain Whirly Ball other than to say they're competitive bumper cars.
Everyone has a scoop and the goal is to score lots of points for your team by putting the wiffle ball through the small hole on the scoring boards... see photos below. Red team vs Yellow. I played once, and got completely rocked by all the High school boys. Apparently my car had a GIANT TARGET on the sides and front if it. Part of the fun of Whirly Ball is bumping your opponents cars to throw them off their game. My back hurts today, but we had so much fun!

Here's a picture from mid court of some of the kids playing.
Here's a picture of one of Eric's games through the window. I was busy eating pizza, drinking soda and socializing. We only stayed here for an hour and twenty minutes, and Eric would argue "not long enough".
Our next stop was Laser Quest in Federal Way. For those of you non Seattleites Edmonds and Federal Way is a good 45 minute drive (with no traffic at 4am), this is strategic to give a little nap time on the bus which none of us took advantage of - so it turned into social time on the bus, which is fun too! When we walked into Laser Quest everyone lined up and got their "code names" which helps keep track of the scoring. Eric was busy helping the kids figure out which code names to use. We had everything from "Snakepit" to "Dr. Hurt". As for me? I was a little sick of lasers and fog so I spent the time playing video games with kids, and having bouncy ball wars. We were at Laser Quest for quite sometime. I think they played 4 or 5 rounds of Laser Tag.
After Laser Tag we headed back to the church and none of the kids knew what was coming next. We pulled into the church and everyone got off the bus for the final time and meandered into the Fellowship Hall for donuts and juice and were greeted by a Hypnotist. Quite a few kids volunteered to go up front, and most of them ended up being hypnotized. They danced like Britney Spears, started a conga line, and made the entire audience laugh themselves to tears. For the Junior High bus Lock in I'll be sure to take more pictures!
It was a super busy night. Eric and I got home around 7 and headed to sleep for a couple hours. The experience with the kids is 100% worth the lack of sleep. As of 5 am I had been up for 24 hours, so by 7 am I was delirious and ready for a nap!

I'm going to go cuddle up on the couch with my smurf blanket, husband and dog and watch movies for a while.

I hope you all had a great weekend too - oh wait it's only Saturday... I hope you are having a great Saturday!

My Happy Place

I have a lot of happy space in my world - but the happiest of all is Marvista Park in Normandy Park, just a few short miles from my house. It's the one place where I can go, be a kid, and then feel completely refreshed afterwards. Vacation is coming... T minus a few weeks now, and I feel like I've earned the crap out of it this year! But until then, a weekly trip to my happy place with the furry one should do it!  I love his little feet trying to take on the leaves! So cute.

The Wreath

It all started with Pinterest - yes, that rant about Pinterest still stands, but this was inspired from there. I wanted to recreate a wreath of bulbs, I hate buying wreaths since they expire year after year, this one will hang in my home for a LONG time, possibly till I die... that is how much I love how it turned out! So, being my crafty (and somewhat frugal) self, I set off to find the materials to make it. Finding that bulbs are not quite as cheap as you'd expect, I found them for 80% off.  This wreath, at cost would have run me about $125. ACK! I made it for under 35%! So pretty! So pleased! Many have asked me to make one for them - my answer - you buy the bulbs and materials and I'll glue it together!

Thoughts of the American Pride Persuasion

I sat, mesmerized as I watched the “Breaking News” of the past 24 hours – Osama Bin Laden, Dead. What? I can’t really deny my mixed feelings about posting today. I don’t normally jump into the political rings but I can’t deny the HUGE news that swept our nation yesterday. So, this post has been thought out, a lot, typed really slowly, every word, intentional. Which is a huge leap from my normal ramblings of a Monday morning. We were sitting on the couch watching a movie, the movie ended and Eric turned on the news, and we watched, in awe. Just like September 11 th , I’ll always remember where I was when I heard the news. I can’t say I was ready to strap on a flag superhero cape style, and run up and down the street chanting “USA… USA… USA” like hundreds and thousands of other Americans in DC and New York, but then again, I wasn’t near ground zero, in Pennsylvania or at the pentagon the day that Osama Bin Laden became a household name. The American in me wants to be happy and
