Just a Dork at Heart

A couple years ago I consented to go to my first Comic book Convention with Eric, John & Julia. I didn’t know what I was getting myself into but I was a supportive fiancé. I had never really read any comics myself or knew much about that “world” but I was happy to go with and learn. After a full day of walking around the convention and observing the new world that was Comi-con I was entranced.

I was indifferent to miss it last year, but this year I’m ready to go and perhaps even more excited to go than Eric is.

I have spent time thinking about my wardrobe (no costume I promise), my bag that I want to carry, which comics I want to buy and which ones I want to bring from home to have signed by the writers and artists.

For those of you who have never experienced a Comic-Con let me give you a little insight to a big world. The type of people (in large) who attend the Comi-con are some of the coolest people you’ll ever meet. There’s a whole lot of nerd going on and most of them are more than happy to talk with you about their love in the comic world whatever that may be. You will see anything from Star Wars fanatics (I’ve never seen Star Wars – I know hold your gasps) to superhero experts. Some of the biggest name authors, artists and TV / movie stars are there to greet the loving and amazing fans. Last time I went (07) I saw the man who played the original Chewbacca (not that it meant much to me – he was crazy tall and resembled Howard Stern) and met the original Lois Lane – Margot Kidder (my brother should be jealous).

I walked out of the (07) Comi-Con with a new Graphic Novel and a new appreciation for comic book collectors everywhere.

I guess I am just a dork at heart!

The Wreath

It all started with Pinterest - yes, that rant about Pinterest still stands, but this was inspired from there. I wanted to recreate a wreath of bulbs, I hate buying wreaths since they expire year after year, this one will hang in my home for a LONG time, possibly till I die... that is how much I love how it turned out! So, being my crafty (and somewhat frugal) self, I set off to find the materials to make it. Finding that bulbs are not quite as cheap as you'd expect, I found them for 80% off.  This wreath, at cost would have run me about $125. ACK! I made it for under 35%! So pretty! So pleased! Many have asked me to make one for them - my answer - you buy the bulbs and materials and I'll glue it together!

My Happy Place

I have a lot of happy space in my world - but the happiest of all is Marvista Park in Normandy Park, just a few short miles from my house. It's the one place where I can go, be a kid, and then feel completely refreshed afterwards. Vacation is coming... T minus a few weeks now, and I feel like I've earned the crap out of it this year! But until then, a weekly trip to my happy place with the furry one should do it!  I love his little feet trying to take on the leaves! So cute.

8 Years Ago Today...

8 Years ago today... I was in the Kent/Des Moines Park and Ride puking in the bushes because I was SO Nervous about my first day at KMS. I didn't know If I could hack it in the big city. I didn't know a thing about being a Receptionist, and I didn't even know what a Broker/Dealer was, but I swallowed the lump in my throat and decided to take it head on. I've learned SO MUCH - an Immeasurable amount of life and work lessons from my 8 years at KMS, and I could muse all day long about the Farm Fresh 22 year old you see to the left and how naive she was. KMS has given me a gift of balancing a work life and a home life and still being able to give my 110% when I'm at work without losing my balance. When I walked in the door this morning, my co-workers had created this celebration from me, and after they arrived, it got bigger with gifts, and notes, and cards, and decorations. They wanted to celebrate me, and my achievements here, though If they would have kn...
