The Wedding

Saturday morning Liz and I woke up, put on our scarves to cover our bed head and headed straight for Starbucks, we got our 3 and 4 shot coffee’s and then went to a grocery store (Hy.vee I think) to get some breakfast for the girls who were getting their hair done. Then we went to the hotel where there were three entire hair studios going simultaneously in two rooms. One gal even brought her own dome hair dryer. It was a pretty impressive operation. We fed the bride some breakfast and started in on the hair do’s. It took about an hour for both Liz and I to get our hair done and then we ran out the door to get the beverages for the Limo ride and Eric from her apartment. Once we got that loaded up we headed for the church.
Once we were at the church we watched Heidi get ready for her big day, took about a million and a half pictures, and got our pretty faces on for the pro to do her job. We took a few professional pictures in the church and then hung out waiting for the wedding to start. Amanda, Liz, Andrea and I got sucked into a 25 minute photo shoot with all the Africa boys which was an amazingly fun time! I took a lot LOT of pictures that day, and most with people I didn’t even know! They’re friendly guys! We then all gathered in our respective boy / girl rooms and waited for the ceremony line up. The girls all gathered around Heidi and a quick prayer was said and then we went out and lined up to walk down the aisle. I walked down 2nd to last with Blaise. Heidi’s ceremony was perfect and when we walked out we were all ready to celebrate. As the couple exited the church 4 boxes of Monarch Butterflies were released and then they climbed into the limo along with the wedding party and we went to an arboretum to take more photos. After hiking through the arboretum we went to Buffalo Wild wings for some snacks and beer and then went back to the hotel where we were announced into the reception hall couple by couple.
We dined on an amazing feast of American & African cuisine, Keri Rae & Anthony toasted the couple and then Heidi & Hermann had their first dance, followed by the Daddy Daughter Dance, and then the bridal party dance. We all danced the night away and the DJ did a good job of playing Midwest favorites for the Bride and African tunes for the groom! It was an amazingly fun night! I’m sorry I can’t post more pictures, but I could post for days – I have a lot of pictures. I will make sure to get them on Facebook and then post the link for you to see.
This post can’t do the day that Heidi & Hermann shared justice, it was a beautiful wedding day surrounded by love and happiness, and lots of butterflies!
Eric and I went to bed around 1:00am, and got up early the next morning for a trek to South Dakota – That’s my next post! Love, Abby

My Happy Place

I have a lot of happy space in my world - but the happiest of all is Marvista Park in Normandy Park, just a few short miles from my house. It's the one place where I can go, be a kid, and then feel completely refreshed afterwards. Vacation is coming... T minus a few weeks now, and I feel like I've earned the crap out of it this year! But until then, a weekly trip to my happy place with the furry one should do it!  I love his little feet trying to take on the leaves! So cute.

The Wreath

It all started with Pinterest - yes, that rant about Pinterest still stands, but this was inspired from there. I wanted to recreate a wreath of bulbs, I hate buying wreaths since they expire year after year, this one will hang in my home for a LONG time, possibly till I die... that is how much I love how it turned out! So, being my crafty (and somewhat frugal) self, I set off to find the materials to make it. Finding that bulbs are not quite as cheap as you'd expect, I found them for 80% off.  This wreath, at cost would have run me about $125. ACK! I made it for under 35%! So pretty! So pleased! Many have asked me to make one for them - my answer - you buy the bulbs and materials and I'll glue it together!

Thoughts of the American Pride Persuasion

I sat, mesmerized as I watched the “Breaking News” of the past 24 hours – Osama Bin Laden, Dead. What? I can’t really deny my mixed feelings about posting today. I don’t normally jump into the political rings but I can’t deny the HUGE news that swept our nation yesterday. So, this post has been thought out, a lot, typed really slowly, every word, intentional. Which is a huge leap from my normal ramblings of a Monday morning. We were sitting on the couch watching a movie, the movie ended and Eric turned on the news, and we watched, in awe. Just like September 11 th , I’ll always remember where I was when I heard the news. I can’t say I was ready to strap on a flag superhero cape style, and run up and down the street chanting “USA… USA… USA” like hundreds and thousands of other Americans in DC and New York, but then again, I wasn’t near ground zero, in Pennsylvania or at the pentagon the day that Osama Bin Laden became a household name. The American in me wants to be happy and
