Sweet Home South Dakota

Sunday Morning we woke up bright and early and made our way to the Airport to get our Rental Car from Enterprise where apparently in Omaha their slogan is “We’ll pick you up as long as you’re not renting from the Airport location”. I looked pretty awesome walking through the airport with my (now) stinky bridesmaid dress and a bouquet of flowers that have had better days. Once we got the car we got the text book “we can’t rent to people with debit cards” and after a big of arguing that the gal on the phone told us we could, we finally got a 2009 Chevy Impala for our carriage to South Dakota. We got on the road by 9 and after a little McDonald’s Breakfast we only made one stop in Vermillion for a bathroom break. We arrived at Mom & Shannon’s around 1:40 ish. We made great time! After a few tearful hello’s we spent the afternoon hanging out as a family. We had a variety of visitors; Kathy, Nannette, Cooper, Nick, Tony, Julie, Carter, Troy, Kyle and later on Grandma Nani. It was so great to see everyone! Mom taught me how to make her killer Potato Soup and Tony spent the afternoon picking on us just like big brothers do and Shannon and I got him pretty good a couple times! Eric got plenty of football watching in with his nephews and my brother and it was good to just be together as a family without any major plans or reservations. After everyone left, and Mom went to bed, Shannon and I went on an adventure to Wal.Mart because no trip would be complete without our adventure to Wal.Mart. We went to bed close to 2am and then woke at 8:30 and started drinking coffee with Mom. Shannon & Mom made us a homemade breakfast and then we made our way out to Tony’s new acreage. We spent the afternoon looking around the farm, riding 4-wheelers and Eric even got to shoot a few different types of guns. It was fun again, just to play on the farm as a family. Monday afternoon we had to leave by 4 and after another quick stop at Wal.Mart, and a bucket full of tears, Eric and I took off. We stopped at the Cowboy for a fuel stop and to load up on Bing Bars and then hit the interstate for the longest 4 hour trip to Omaha ever. The road couldn’t have passed fast enough – This being said even as I took a nap from Madison to Vermillion. We got back into Omaha around 8 and returned our car. Heidi, Liz and Hermann picked us up at the airport again and we went to Senor Matia’s for tacos which were way better 4 years ago for some reason. After dinner we dropped the Alikpokou's off at their apartment and that was not without tears either. We got back to Liz’s downloaded the 8 million pictures we had, and then went to bed so Liz could take us to the airport by 5am the next morning. We checked into our flight, got through security and on the plane home. We arrived home around 10 am as both of our flights were running early. It is so good to be home, and glad to be caught up with blogging and housework, I got to decorate for Halloween yesterday, and I plan to post pictures of that soon! It was such an amazing trip and I miss my family and friends dearly already. All my Love, AbbyAuntie Abby bribing Kyle with Candy

My Happy Place

I have a lot of happy space in my world - but the happiest of all is Marvista Park in Normandy Park, just a few short miles from my house. It's the one place where I can go, be a kid, and then feel completely refreshed afterwards. Vacation is coming... T minus a few weeks now, and I feel like I've earned the crap out of it this year! But until then, a weekly trip to my happy place with the furry one should do it!  I love his little feet trying to take on the leaves! So cute.

The Wreath

It all started with Pinterest - yes, that rant about Pinterest still stands, but this was inspired from there. I wanted to recreate a wreath of bulbs, I hate buying wreaths since they expire year after year, this one will hang in my home for a LONG time, possibly till I die... that is how much I love how it turned out! So, being my crafty (and somewhat frugal) self, I set off to find the materials to make it. Finding that bulbs are not quite as cheap as you'd expect, I found them for 80% off.  This wreath, at cost would have run me about $125. ACK! I made it for under 35%! So pretty! So pleased! Many have asked me to make one for them - my answer - you buy the bulbs and materials and I'll glue it together!

Thoughts of the American Pride Persuasion

I sat, mesmerized as I watched the “Breaking News” of the past 24 hours – Osama Bin Laden, Dead. What? I can’t really deny my mixed feelings about posting today. I don’t normally jump into the political rings but I can’t deny the HUGE news that swept our nation yesterday. So, this post has been thought out, a lot, typed really slowly, every word, intentional. Which is a huge leap from my normal ramblings of a Monday morning. We were sitting on the couch watching a movie, the movie ended and Eric turned on the news, and we watched, in awe. Just like September 11 th , I’ll always remember where I was when I heard the news. I can’t say I was ready to strap on a flag superhero cape style, and run up and down the street chanting “USA… USA… USA” like hundreds and thousands of other Americans in DC and New York, but then again, I wasn’t near ground zero, in Pennsylvania or at the pentagon the day that Osama Bin Laden became a household name. The American in me wants to be happy and
