Relay for Life 2010: THE HAPPY BIRTHDAY edition

After a short nap on early Sunday morning (2-5 ish) I woke with a little bounce in my step and aches in my hips and I took over for the night relief walkers! Tacy and I walked a few laps together and then she retired to her tent for another short nap as she had been helping relief walk while I was napping. I walked a few miles with my Ipod as the stadium was pretty much dead quiet. It was a nice little reprieve listening to music and being alone with God's amazing sunrise. On one lap around I noticed Mom, Brenda and Kathy all pop their heads out of their tents and they were ready to walk beside me. But not before we put on our party hats and Brenda had some birthday breakfast cake!

Brenda turned 56 and Mom turned 52, it's so neat that they are sisters who are not twins (Obviously - the 4 year age gap gives that away) who share a birthday!
Since I walked Mom's first lap with her we saw it appropriate that she walked the last lap of my 20 miles with me! I was ELATED to be able to walk that far, but even more so that Mom was able to walk 5 (appx) of those 20 with Mom.

As you can tell we were REALLY excited to be done!

Mom had a few more laps to finish out her 5 miles, so she walked them with Kathy and Brenda! She was pretty proud of herself too (as she should be)!
Celebrating more holidays was the "theme" of relay this year, and we could choose any celebration we wanted. So we went for Birthdays... because what's more decorative than having not one but TWO birthday girls???

We still lost the decorating competition, but it was worth a shot, and more importantly it was fun to have lots of birthday joy around for two of my favorite ladies!
After relay wound down, we cleaned up our campsite, watched the closing ceremony where our own Becky Marchitto won the 2nd place for individual fundraising!
Mom, Brenda and Kathy went to eat and then a short rest at their hotel. I came home for a few hours of a nap, a shower, and got ready to take the gals out for their birthday!
Where did we go?

What better way to celebrate your birthday while visiting Seattle than to eat at the Sky City Restaurant atop of the Space Needle!!!
I don't know how much you know about Sky City, but it's a rotating restaurant that sits just a few feet under the observation deck on the Space Needle. The restaurant rotates 365 degrees every 46 minutes while you dine, so you get to see the entire view once every 46 minutes.
It's a really beautiful restaurant and a little spendy too! They require you spend at least $35 per person. We hit our limit, and then ordered dessert!

After valet parking, we rode the elevator up and took a stroll around the observation deck. Brenda had never been up in the Space Needle even though she's been to Seattle a couple times so it was exciting to bring someone who had never been!

This was the second trip up for Mom and I together, the first was when she first visited in July of 2006! It was fun to be back on the observation deck together!

The view never gets old! My work building is right next to the "round" westin tower. (Far left)
It's fun to be able to buy a post card and point out my work building!

Mom and Brenda ordered Prime Rib, Kathy a strip steak, and Chicken for me! It was all very delicious! I am actually pretty excited to go back!

Oh and that dessert I mentioned? It's really a scoop of ice cream with chocolate sauce, but it is called the Lunar Orbiter! They serve it on a bed of dry ice so it looks REALLY cool when it's served!
No better way to celebrate 56 & 52!
Happy Birthday Mom and Brenda! Hope you enjoyed your day!

The Wreath

It all started with Pinterest - yes, that rant about Pinterest still stands, but this was inspired from there. I wanted to recreate a wreath of bulbs, I hate buying wreaths since they expire year after year, this one will hang in my home for a LONG time, possibly till I die... that is how much I love how it turned out! So, being my crafty (and somewhat frugal) self, I set off to find the materials to make it. Finding that bulbs are not quite as cheap as you'd expect, I found them for 80% off.  This wreath, at cost would have run me about $125. ACK! I made it for under 35%! So pretty! So pleased! Many have asked me to make one for them - my answer - you buy the bulbs and materials and I'll glue it together!

My Happy Place

I have a lot of happy space in my world - but the happiest of all is Marvista Park in Normandy Park, just a few short miles from my house. It's the one place where I can go, be a kid, and then feel completely refreshed afterwards. Vacation is coming... T minus a few weeks now, and I feel like I've earned the crap out of it this year! But until then, a weekly trip to my happy place with the furry one should do it!  I love his little feet trying to take on the leaves! So cute.

Erica's Visit | Wednesday, Thursday & Friday!

Now that we've got the senior photos posted... let's rewind to Wednesday afternoon when she hopped off the plane! I was so excited to have her here! It's been a long awaited event, we started talking about this last year! Erica graduates in May and this was her graduation present from Auntie Abby & Uncle Eric. She got to choose, either we would fly there to attend her graduation, or we'd fly her out here to go to Comicon! Well, she choose. And Wednesday afternoon she landed in Seattle! Though I'm a little bummed I won't be there to see her in a mortar board cap and gown, the quality time we had here together was priceless. First thing Thursday Morning we took a walk in the woods, this little lady is such a tree hugger! She loves nature, and flowers, and everything to do with the out doors! It was a nice catch up time for us! Then, we got ready and put on our geek ware for our first day at Emerald City Comicon. We walked around all day, and she was i...
