Relay for Life 2010: Relay Eve

After dining on grasshoppers it was time to get serious about this relay thing and make some miles happen. Most of our visitors had come and gone and it was up to Team Hope Corps to keep it going. I make it sound really epic don't I?

We were making laps when I got a phone call from my Chiropractic assistant Jeannie. She was coming to relief walk for us and she brought her two nieces Jamie and Jessica whom were both youth of ours. It was so great to see them, and great to have a few extra feet on the track.

Eric was getting ready to go stay with Aquaman for the night after the luminaria ceremony, so he coaxed me on the track to do some laps together.

What an amazing amount of support this man gives me. He's such a blessing.

Mom got busy lighting the luminaria. This year the luminaria's were weighed down by a can of food. The Hope Corps collected over 50 cans of food for our luminaria's and Highline Relay gathered 660 cans to send off to the White Center Food bank.

I took pictures of each luminaria we made.... there are SO many to upload. So I just uploaded Mom's. I might have kept it to put in her scrapbook for later... maybe...

My Mom is my hero :)

We walked around and took pictures of the luminarias before the ceremony began. There were a TON!

We took over for the Bodle gals and they turned in their lap beads for the night!

Oh the bliss of relay eve!

I was helping keep Mom warm with the heat off my sunburn as we waited for the luminaria ceremony to begin; and continued to keep her warm as we waited for it to END!

Eric at least got a couple nice shots while the ceremony was taking it's sweet time...

No disrespect to the luminarias or the people they represent, but sometimes less is more!

They spelled out HOPE and CURE..
Two words that are pretty synonymous with Relay.

The glow necklaces were a big hit! Way to go Cousins for the Cure for selling them!

And then we walked... Mom, Brenda and Kathy went to sleep, Eric went home, Tacy woke up, and Alex and Lindsey showed up to give Megan and I some rest for the evening!

Not sure we would have survived the night with someone on the track at all times without these three! I couldn't even begin to thank them enough!

8 Years Ago Today...

8 Years ago today... I was in the Kent/Des Moines Park and Ride puking in the bushes because I was SO Nervous about my first day at KMS. I didn't know If I could hack it in the big city. I didn't know a thing about being a Receptionist, and I didn't even know what a Broker/Dealer was, but I swallowed the lump in my throat and decided to take it head on. I've learned SO MUCH - an Immeasurable amount of life and work lessons from my 8 years at KMS, and I could muse all day long about the Farm Fresh 22 year old you see to the left and how naive she was. KMS has given me a gift of balancing a work life and a home life and still being able to give my 110% when I'm at work without losing my balance. When I walked in the door this morning, my co-workers had created this celebration from me, and after they arrived, it got bigger with gifts, and notes, and cards, and decorations. They wanted to celebrate me, and my achievements here, though If they would have kn...

Merry Craftmas!!

When I was little Mom had one of these to put out every Christmas. I remember her tossing it out having fixed its hot glue after every warm summer in the shed, she wasn't particularly attached to it but I was. Having collected enough baby food jars (finally) I put it together this weekend! Looks just like I remember it and now it is sitting in my closet awaiting its debut next weekend!

The Wreath

It all started with Pinterest - yes, that rant about Pinterest still stands, but this was inspired from there. I wanted to recreate a wreath of bulbs, I hate buying wreaths since they expire year after year, this one will hang in my home for a LONG time, possibly till I die... that is how much I love how it turned out! So, being my crafty (and somewhat frugal) self, I set off to find the materials to make it. Finding that bulbs are not quite as cheap as you'd expect, I found them for 80% off.  This wreath, at cost would have run me about $125. ACK! I made it for under 35%! So pretty! So pleased! Many have asked me to make one for them - my answer - you buy the bulbs and materials and I'll glue it together!
