The Owl

I have to take a brief break from my Thankful journey to talk about my walk to work this morning. Normally it's 100% without event, and though I'm tired, the half mile journey normally wakes me up a little and preps me for my day.

This morning I was walking down the steep hill from our neighborhood and I felt a large bird swoop over top of me. I looked up to see a HUGE wing span, thinking it was a hawk I didn't really take a closer look, until it swooped over me again and grabbed my stocking hat right off my head! I think that he thought the ball was a rodent or something.

He dropped my hat on just the other side of the road and landed in the tree, I approached the tree to get my hat and looked up to see a brown Owl sitting on a tree branch. He was so pretty with a few white feathers around his face. I think it was the first time I've ever seen an Owl that close and face to face! They really are beautiful birds! I grabbed my hat, and scolded him for taking it.

He swooped over top of me again and flew off to another tree.

I tried desperately to get a photo of him, but it was SO dark outside! I did manage to get a image, but It's not one I'm even going to share here, because if you didn't know he was there, you wouldn't be able to make him out in the photo.

Such a funny way to start my day!

The Wreath

It all started with Pinterest - yes, that rant about Pinterest still stands, but this was inspired from there. I wanted to recreate a wreath of bulbs, I hate buying wreaths since they expire year after year, this one will hang in my home for a LONG time, possibly till I die... that is how much I love how it turned out! So, being my crafty (and somewhat frugal) self, I set off to find the materials to make it. Finding that bulbs are not quite as cheap as you'd expect, I found them for 80% off.  This wreath, at cost would have run me about $125. ACK! I made it for under 35%! So pretty! So pleased! Many have asked me to make one for them - my answer - you buy the bulbs and materials and I'll glue it together!

8 Years Ago Today...

8 Years ago today... I was in the Kent/Des Moines Park and Ride puking in the bushes because I was SO Nervous about my first day at KMS. I didn't know If I could hack it in the big city. I didn't know a thing about being a Receptionist, and I didn't even know what a Broker/Dealer was, but I swallowed the lump in my throat and decided to take it head on. I've learned SO MUCH - an Immeasurable amount of life and work lessons from my 8 years at KMS, and I could muse all day long about the Farm Fresh 22 year old you see to the left and how naive she was. KMS has given me a gift of balancing a work life and a home life and still being able to give my 110% when I'm at work without losing my balance. When I walked in the door this morning, my co-workers had created this celebration from me, and after they arrived, it got bigger with gifts, and notes, and cards, and decorations. They wanted to celebrate me, and my achievements here, though If they would have kn...

Merry Craftmas!!

When I was little Mom had one of these to put out every Christmas. I remember her tossing it out having fixed its hot glue after every warm summer in the shed, she wasn't particularly attached to it but I was. Having collected enough baby food jars (finally) I put it together this weekend! Looks just like I remember it and now it is sitting in my closet awaiting its debut next weekend!
