The Great Pumpkin Carve

I couldn't wait any longer to carve pumpkins. I figured out that the "perfect" day to carve pumpkins would have been Tuesday; five days prior to Halloween so we could enjoy them for ample time and they wouldn't be too moldy for Halloween. Whelp, Tuesday filled up quickly and left me doing it Monday, and I've almost always got a case of the Mondays (which is not a good thing.) or Wednesday, which would not give me enough time to enjoy the pumpkins before they had to go away. So ... tonight it was!
Eric and I started with a very "scary" dinner of Mummy dogs and mac & cheese! Just to get myself in the mood to carve pumpkins. I was cleaning up from supper and Eric was flipping through the TV guide and found Hocus Pocus. He left it on because he knows how much I love it, and how much of a Halloween mood it puts me in! I love my husband, he's so good to me.
I started out with the medium sized pumpkin and then moved to the larger, and then to the smallest. I like this picture of the pumpkin guts, these gords never cease to amaze me. I don't know if you know this, but I am a VERY serious pumpkin carver... look at that intensity!
I have fun, but I make sure to get the walls scraped perfectly and all of the innards cleaned out as perfectly as I can.
Then, every year since Eric and I started dating, I take a picture of me trying to eat the guts. I don't know why but I think it's fun!
Here's my three guys all done up! I went "traditional" this year, and skipped the stencils. I was trying to stay origininal.
I carved the smallest one of a kitty, I thought Gracie needed a friend. She was actually pretty scared of it. I set it next to her, and scampered for my camera, I got this shot, and she stood up and ran away with her tail flicking and the hair on her back standing up. I guess they won't be friends afterall.

And Aquaman was plenty scared of the pumpkins too. For him all I had to say was " want a Treat" and he was willing to sit until I got the shot I wanted.

It was a great night. I always love carving pumpkins.

The Wreath

It all started with Pinterest - yes, that rant about Pinterest still stands, but this was inspired from there. I wanted to recreate a wreath of bulbs, I hate buying wreaths since they expire year after year, this one will hang in my home for a LONG time, possibly till I die... that is how much I love how it turned out! So, being my crafty (and somewhat frugal) self, I set off to find the materials to make it. Finding that bulbs are not quite as cheap as you'd expect, I found them for 80% off.  This wreath, at cost would have run me about $125. ACK! I made it for under 35%! So pretty! So pleased! Many have asked me to make one for them - my answer - you buy the bulbs and materials and I'll glue it together!

My Happy Place

I have a lot of happy space in my world - but the happiest of all is Marvista Park in Normandy Park, just a few short miles from my house. It's the one place where I can go, be a kid, and then feel completely refreshed afterwards. Vacation is coming... T minus a few weeks now, and I feel like I've earned the crap out of it this year! But until then, a weekly trip to my happy place with the furry one should do it!  I love his little feet trying to take on the leaves! So cute.

Merry Craftmas!!

When I was little Mom had one of these to put out every Christmas. I remember her tossing it out having fixed its hot glue after every warm summer in the shed, she wasn't particularly attached to it but I was. Having collected enough baby food jars (finally) I put it together this weekend! Looks just like I remember it and now it is sitting in my closet awaiting its debut next weekend!
