Happy Birthday Ivan!

Yet another wonderful day spent with friends; we're so blessed. The day started out with a birthday breakfast surprise for our friend Ivan. We pulled up to park in Georgetown when we saw them walking down the sidewalk. We pulled over and said hey and that's when it dawned on Ivan that we were there for his birthday surprise. We were there to meet Ivan and his wife Dawn in Georgetown at Calamity Janes for breakfast/lunch. We filled ourselves with some amazingly great food and Calamity had such an awesome atmosphere I was very full and happy when we walked out. I ate the "Better than Sex" burger - It's damn good; Caramelized Onions, Gorgonzola cheese and honey mustard - YUMMM.
We walked down the street and spent some time in Georgetown Records / Fantagraphics. The boys bought some books and Dawn and I went next door to grab some coffee and water.

Another great little spot in Georgetown - All City Coffee. We took in some of the local art and shops that had all sorts of handmade clothing, jewelry and art. I really love Georgetown It's such a unique area of the city.

Then, Ivan and Dawn invited us with them to go see the Bodies exhibit downtown. I have to say that Eric and I were very intrigued and excited to go, but got a little squeamish once we were inside. We had to put our brains in science mode in order to enjoy the exhibit. The best parts for me were seeing the fetal stages and they had a piece of Lung with Lung Cancer in it - hit home, but it was neat to see. It was really interesting - but... very real.

So real that people protest it. This flier was one of many littering the street poles of Fifth Ave.

After the exhibit we walked down to the market to get some good food and deal with tourists.
It was great to walk, talk and show each other our favorite parts of the market.

Here's Ivan and Eric in the magazine section of the market. Dawn and I were on the other side of the racks playing stealth photographer!

Not very stealth when we took pictures of ourselves though! Going through the shots from the day made me realize that these photos are amongst the first that we have together - we've only been hanging out for a couple years - what took me so long?

and of course... one of the market sign because it is that fun!
We walked back to our car and took Ivan and Dawn back to their car in Georgetown and then came home. It is so good to be in the comforts of our home reflecting on an amazing day with friends. We feel blessed.

The Wreath

It all started with Pinterest - yes, that rant about Pinterest still stands, but this was inspired from there. I wanted to recreate a wreath of bulbs, I hate buying wreaths since they expire year after year, this one will hang in my home for a LONG time, possibly till I die... that is how much I love how it turned out! So, being my crafty (and somewhat frugal) self, I set off to find the materials to make it. Finding that bulbs are not quite as cheap as you'd expect, I found them for 80% off.  This wreath, at cost would have run me about $125. ACK! I made it for under 35%! So pretty! So pleased! Many have asked me to make one for them - my answer - you buy the bulbs and materials and I'll glue it together!

My Happy Place

I have a lot of happy space in my world - but the happiest of all is Marvista Park in Normandy Park, just a few short miles from my house. It's the one place where I can go, be a kid, and then feel completely refreshed afterwards. Vacation is coming... T minus a few weeks now, and I feel like I've earned the crap out of it this year! But until then, a weekly trip to my happy place with the furry one should do it!  I love his little feet trying to take on the leaves! So cute.

Merry Craftmas!!

When I was little Mom had one of these to put out every Christmas. I remember her tossing it out having fixed its hot glue after every warm summer in the shed, she wasn't particularly attached to it but I was. Having collected enough baby food jars (finally) I put it together this weekend! Looks just like I remember it and now it is sitting in my closet awaiting its debut next weekend!
