Something New : The Light Rail Edition

Katherine and I met downtown for a cookie a Dahlia Bakery today. It had been awhile since we got to hang out and have a little girl time, so some cookies and shopping were in order. After the Dahlia we browsed around Bed, Bath and Beyond where I picked up a fabulous commuter bag / Vegas carry on. Then we headed to the Westlake tunnel to catch the Light rail. The light rail just opened (last year?) a little while ago and I haven't gotten to ride on it yet - and I had never gone into the tunnel's downtown either, I was really impressed by both! The light rail reminds me a lot of the trains in Boston, but not as complex. So ... Something NEW ... the Light rail and the Bus/light rail tunnel! Only took me 4 years in Seattle to check out the Bus tunnel. It was a great day!

Holy Week

This week is one of my favorite weeks of the year. I love Holy Week. I know it may be a little sacrilegious to mix the commercial side with my love for Holy week, but the truth is it brings back good memories, and I don't think God is so opposed to that. When I was little Mom always used to let us dye eggs on the Sunday before Easter - I missed that deadline by one day this year and since Eric isn't nearly as excited to dye eggs as I am, I only did a dozen this year, and by the time Eric and I were done "testing" them, I dyed 10 total. Look folks, Egg decorating and dying is serious business... obviously. And just like last year , I couldn't resist a little photo shoot with the worlds most photogenic dog; Aquaman . God Obviously knew what he was doing when he brought Aquaman into our lives for many reasons, but mostly because he's so good and humors his human Mom with lots and lots of pictures that I treasure... Happy Easter everyone!

Spring has Sprung

Oh how I love spring in Seattle, I love it almost as much as winter, fall and summer... okay let's just say the weather here doesn't suck as long as you can stand a little rain now and again. Last week Eric and I took Aquaman out for a walk and I brought my camera and was super excited to take pictures of the blooming flowers and of Aquaman out running. About halfway through our walk after I had been snapping pictures I realized that I had no CF Card in my camera. Awesome. So every picture I took was moot because it didn't save anywhere. So I waited for another sunny day and REMEMBERED my CF Card this time. Not sure what these trees are even called, but I love the bright pink flowers the produce. Look at the blue in the sky! I didn't even enhance the color on these at all. And the Yellow one... I love yellow. And the Aquaman run face... It makes me giggle. You can see how much fun he's having. Looks like he's saying WOOF! But really he's just ecstatic t

Something New : 16mm

Last night we spent time with our dear friends Ivan and Dawn. We hung out, ate some pretty awesome Mexican food and dirt cups, and then Ivan showed us some 16mm movies. It was so interesting to watch these movies complete with soundtrack from this machine. I normally wouldn't be so excited about something like this because it just wouldn't interest me but since I'm trying NEW things and since our friend Ivan is a bonified Movie buff I decided to give it a shot, and I was pleasantly surprised how much I liked watching the movies. One was about Safety in the office place, and then another foot safety video and finally a video made by Disney about the dangers of Crack. All three of them were pretty funny and really old school. So, thanks Ivan for helping me try something new. Eric and I talked on the way home about my something new resolution. We've decided that everything I've tried has been a good experience thus far - and how I've become a way more adventur

The Busy Life of the Ronnebecks

I am pretty sure that my fasts for Lent are mocking me or at the very least tempting me at every corner I turn. 40 days really isn't that long to be away from Facebook but I got an e-mail today from Facebook telling me they've noticed it's been awhile since I've logged in and thought It would be helpful for me to know that I've got 8 new messages 181 photo tags, 5 new friend requests and 4 new friend suggestions. Thank you Facebook , that was helpful, now I want to check it more than I did prior to your lovely e-mail. In other news, my dental appointment has been put off till Tuesday - so I have to wait till Tuesday for Doc to tell me that my teeth look like they're healing well, which I know because I haven't had any troubles with them at all. I even ate real food today... took a little longer to clean out my mouth, but the Teriyaki from Highline Teriyaki was SO worth it. This weekend will be semi-busy, we've got plans with Ivan and Dawn on Friday

Sweet Dreams

I woke this morning and immediately decided that lent needs to come to an end... soon. I dreamt that I was standing on a giant Starbucks cup that held my beloved white chocolate mocha (iced because it's getting nice out) and a large straw that reached to the sky. I was trying so hard to get to the end of the straw to get a taste... where in lies the cruelness... not only did I give up coffee for lent, but I can't drink out of straws till my teeth heal. Just thought I'd share... because it's completely weird.

Smile a little

Yesterday as I was riding home on the bus there was a younger gal sitting on the benches in the front of the bus, and as an old man got on looking for a seat, she offered the seat next to her “you can sit here” … the old man thanked her, and then sat right down on her lap and said “Here?” and the entire front end of the bus erupted in laughter; and then the old man moved to the seat beside her and fell asleep. It made me smile the whole way home – what a clever old guy with a very good sense of humor; lucky for him the young lady also had a sense of humor or it might not have ended so well. Just a little story to remind you to have a good sense of Humor! Hope you’re having a wonderful day! Abby

Slice of Life : The Sunday Edition

This weekend was low key for sure... yesterday consisted of errands to our favorite places. Action City, Best Buy and Uwajamaya . We got NEW MOON which hit shelves yesterday, and a couple new CD's , and then off to get fresh fish for my husband who deserves all the fresh fish in the world for waiting on me hand and foot for the past 4 days - seriously folks, I married greatness. I got to eat my first bit of solid food, and all I wanted is a disgusting McDonalds Cheeseburger and fries, which turned out to be nice and soggy for my teeth and the meat merely disintegrated in my mouth... Thank you McDonalds for not using REAL beef so I was able to "Chew" my burger! And then as if his waiting on me hand and foot wasn't enough to show his love, he let me watch New Moon. *Sigh... After being in a fog of post wisdom teeth drugs I woke this morning to the sun shining and the birds chirping and for the first time in days it didn't bother me. I would like to report that

Man's Best Friend

This little guy hasn't really left my side since yesterday. If I'm sitting on the couch he's at my feet. When I nap, he's on my lap. It's so good to have the healing powers of a little friend like Aquaman. I am feeling a little better today. The swelling is increasing but so is the icing. I got to eat my first bowl of real food and that makes me happy, and makes my body happy too. The stiches on the bottom right hand teeth are driving me crazy... but I have been leaving them alone pretty well. Not much new to report. Just wanted to share this picture of my little guy. Off to eat some pudding! Abby

Pity Party ... Table for One!

Look at this pitiful face... I went into oral surgery this morning at 7:15am to get all four of my wisdom teeth removed. I walked in, sat down and they started with laughing gas, and with in 10 minutes of walking in the door, the doc was doing his thing and I was out cold. I woke up a couple times while they were drilling, but I really haven't been in that much pain just discomfort. After surgery Eric took me to Jamba Juice and got me a very large Orange Dream Machine; doctor's order's. I'm on a diet of ice cream, Jamba Juice, pudding and yogurt... I am already ready to be eating good food again but it doesn't suck to eat ice cream all day either. Percocet is my best friend... and I am far more coherent than I expected to be. This isn't what I would like to admit as something new, but to be fair... It is my first ever oral surgery - and hopefully last. So... if you're bored too shoot me an e-mail I am on a pretty strict no talking rule from my husband wi

Erin Go Braugh!

I love St. Patties day ... when the whole world decides they're Irish! Thankfully I do have a little Irish blood in my family and love to turn green on St. Patties day! Here's to Corned beef, cabbage and Guinness ... and Green Beer!!! I will be eating lots of everything today, for in the next couple weeks I'll be eating baby food (essentially) I will be going to get my wisdom teeth removed in the morning... talk about something new! Wish me Luck... Of the Irish persuasion .

Slice of Life : The I miss my Mom edition

I think Slice of Life is going to become a weekly ritual for me, It’s a good way to give a little snippet and trick myself in to the fact that I’m not writing a WHOLE POST! So, to Jumpstart the week with my bloggy goodness... A slice of life ... Outside my window... The busy city is in it's daily bustle ... traffic jams... and a little sunshine (this will frequently be the same – as I normally post during break time at work.) I am thinking... That I’m kind of in the mood for spring cleaning, Lord please help my husband. I am thankful for... My Mom, who keeps me smiling all day via text. From the kitchen... awaits some leftover lamb cubes with a pita and some ketchup! Eric rocked a boneless lamb leg last night; he’s becoming such a wonderful cook! I am wearing... brown work slacks, and a white shirt with teal circles all over it with my teal heels… Teal is my new favorite color for some reason. I am going... to Vegas in 30 days!!!!! I am hoping... that I have energy to endur

The Emerald City Comi Con

I swear this is the last of the nerd talk you will see on here ... for awhile. Here are the last of the photos from 2010 Emerald City Comi Con. Eric, Lee and I all went in to the ECCC with heavy pockets and lots of plans. We left a little lighter in the pocket area but we were all fulfilled. This is Jill Thompson she had quite the line for her booth, but I did sneak in and get my Magic Trixie books signed by her. Eric saw that she was going to be at the comicon late last night, and I was excited to see her, and it was nice to get my books signed. Here's some of the starts of The Guild . I like the series, but since the headliner of this cast, Flecia Day cancelled last week I was happy to pass the winding line to see them; but I did go for a stealth photo, thank you for zoom! The original Incredible Hulk... Lou Ferrigno ! Here's Eric's favorite comic writer of all time... Geoff Johns. And as we were leaving the Con Eric got a picture with the Monarch's Henchman and

Owly...

There are so many things that made today great, but above all it was thanks to Andy Runton and his creation, Owly. I can honestly say hands down Owly is my all time favorite comic... ever. He is a little Owl who feels more emotion than some humans I know. Andy's books do not have words in them but you can interpret the story for yourself as you go. As I mentioned yesterday, I have a nasty habit of being really excited to meet someone at ECCC and then when I approach the booth and want to get the artist, writer or famous persons attention I freeze and spend most of my time smiling and nodding as Eric jumps in to bail me out by speaking for me. My wonderful husband coached me before we left this morning telling me I can't blow it when I meet Andy and Owly (effectively). I was SUPER nervous, but I have to say I didn't blow it and had a wonderful conversation with Andy and told him just how much I love Owly, and everything inbetween. We spent 30 minutes at his table, chatting a

Original Art...

I have SO much to post about the Comicon today, that I've decided to do it in sections - this might take me a couple posts. So, I've decided to break up the posts into three categories... Original Art, Owly & The Con. First up to bat is some original art that we acquired last year. I never posted it, and it's really fun! The First one is by Franco It's Aquaman swimming with some penguins and the one next to it is by Art Baltazar and it's Captain Marvel! Franco and Baltazar are co-creators of the Tiny Titans comic which I read every month... Aww Yeah Titans! This Kermit was done By Amy Mebberson . She does comics for The Muppetts and Monsters, Inc. I bought a Monster's, Inc graphic novel from her and she threw in this sketch of Kermit the Frog for Free... It's not easy being green so she put him on Orange paper! This is my beloved character Owly... I got this original art from his artist Andy Runton . Andy was so much fun to talk to but I will save th

Carbs and Comics

What a fantastic way to spend a Friday night ... a big bowl of Spaghetti... and mapping out the comicon plan for tomorrow morning... more about the spaghetti a little later... but now... it's time again ladies and gentlemen... For the EMERALD CITY COMICON!!! It's frighting to me HOW EXCITED I am to go to the Comicon this year. My favorite artist / comic will be there tomorrow and I can't wait to get some original art, and books, and plush and whatever else he sells with Owly on it. I mean... who wouldn't want to buy everything in sight with this little guy... melt my heart! This is the drawing I saw when I fell in love with Owly last year at the comicon only to find out that his artist was no where to be found. Eric was checking out a few things online when he learned that my second favorite comic's artist has cancelled this year... so I will not get my books signed by Skottie Young... So dissapointed. But his blog says that his flight got cancelled so I guess I c

A Slice of Life : The Best Friend Edition

To Jumpstart my bloggy goodness... A slice of life... Outside my window... The busy city is in it's daily bustle ... traffic jams... and a whole lot of rain! I am thinking... that my neck really needs to quit hurting... and how can I force myself to have good posture to make it better. I am thankful for... my supportive husband who helped me out of an Anxiety Abby Meltdown last night. From the kitchen... awaits my lunch packed by said husband... Turkey Kofte, Apple Riata with Spinach and a half of a pita. I am wearing... a white pinstripe button down shirt, with black pants and heels. I'm in "Business Abby" mode today. I am going... to work hard today, so I can get home and start work on weekend plans... We're going to the Emerald City Comi Con (ECCC) this weekend! (YAY!) I am hoping... for short lines at the ECCC, but on a more serious note... I'm hoping for my Mom's PET scan results to come back clean and clear. I am hearing... typing of my co-wo

Corey Haim

100x’s sad about this… Don't even know what to say... My Sister taught me everything I needed to know about the Corey’s (Haim and Feldman) and then taught me to love Corey Haim (Was there any other choice?). ♥♥♥Rest in Peace Corey♥♥♥

Something New : The Snowshoe Edition

This weekend I really went for it. I did lots of new things! I went up to Stevens Pass with my co-worker Mindy and her husband Phil for Hope on the Slopes ( HotS ). HotS is an event put on by the American Cancer Society that is basically a relay type event for the Ski or Snowboard enthusiast! I found myself chatting with people I've never met, making coffee here and there, and sleeping on the floor in the lodge without complaint. I found myself spending time with me, learning to be content without something in front of me to keep me entertained and found myself volunteering where I could to fill the 24 hour time span of HotS . To see the WHOLE story of HotS go to this LINK. Pictures included.Mindy suggested that I check out the snowshoeing lead by the USFS Rangers. I don't normally go do things by myself because I'm co-dependent like that. But within about 30 minutes of Mindy suggesting and handing me the brochure I found myself knocking at the USFS Ranger Station
